IC: Tahnok Nuva

Tahnok clutched his head against his newly acquired headache and sat down at a table, bending the seat under his weight.

OOC: Tahnok is just going to sit here for a while, feel free to bother him at you leisure.

IC: Lytrel

He'd seen enough H to know where this was going.

When the tentacles grabbed his arm as well, Lytrel activated his Pakari again a and attempted to shake the arm loose, while still keeping a grip on Kopen.

Help is coming!

If Lytrel had time to sigh in relief, he would have. Disks of... Something cut the arms holding him; now he just needed to take care of Kopen. Seeing the tentacles reaching out to the beings behind him, he had an idea.

Gripping Kopen tighter, he focused on the blackness ahead of him and tried to increase the pull of gravity in the area in front of him, where these tentacles where probably coming from. Could whatever this thing was tolerate its suddenly increased weight?

GM IC: DODGE GEM (CAFETERIA)

It would appear that Artorre's aim was just off, for the very edge of the can knocked the Infinite Gem loose and it flipped through the air, clattering to a stop at the Enforcer's feet.

GM IC: KOPEN'S GROUP - TUNNEL

The attacks from Nocton caused the appendages to release both Kopen and Lytrel; now free, the latter fighter's gravity attack forced the tentacles to the floor. With the appendages unable to move, the group was now able to attack.

GM IC: QUEEN'S GROUP - TUNNEL

The Queen, Xaeraz, Ezezko, and Albrect were now near enough to hear the shouting; the Queen's mind reached out to Von Worten and Lytrel, asking each of them for a status report.

Lekona sighed in frustration, "Artorre! Let me handle grabbing this thing. Just keep away any other attacks!" With that said, Lekona gathered his elemental powers once more. This time he formed a sphere of wind tightly around the Gem. There. It shouldn't be able to escape from that. If the sphere worked, Lekona would start bringing it over to his location.

IC: Kopen - Queen's Tunnel (with Lytrel, Nocton, Von Worten)

She was ready the moment the tentacles collapsed. She pushed herself up and bolted in the opposite direction, only to crash headlong into... something. If she could see, she might have recognized Nocton. But her every thought was focused on escape. She needed sound and peace. She pushed off the obstacle and found a way around it, running and running until her torn legs gave out from under her.

It was then that she heard the echoes of her body crashing to the ground. She sobbed with relief, not daring or able to move one step further.

IC: Lytrel

A status report was being asked of?

We've encountered a field of silence and some sort of tentacle monster. Nocton, Von Worten, and I are currently engaging.

Noticing Kopen fleeing, Lytrel bodded before turning his attention back to the gravity field, maintaining the increased gravity around what appeared to be the source of the tentacles. His full concentration was being spent on this task, regretting he couldn't do more.

IC: Von Worten (Tunnel)

Hostile tentacles and a field of silence, I projected to the Queen. Lytrel and Kopen are free from the tentacles' grasp, and we are now engaging.

I hadn't been entirely thrilled with my sudden deafness, but my mind was still open to communication, and that was all I really cared about. Kopen had run the other way, no doubt to get free of the silence field. Being blind, her ears were her best form of "sight."

I was ill-equipped to fight down here (that seemed to be happening a lot), but I was better equipped to discover the nature of this beast. I probed slowly forward with my mind, attempting to find the source of this creature.

IC: Well, that had done it. Lekona had said the magic word: Bohrok. Olari leapt to her feet, adrenaline-fuelled hydraulics powering her into standing. Her hands slammed onto the table below her. She didn't care that it had just sat down, its patchwork appearance clearly meant it was from a world similar to her own and that made it her enemy. Perhaps there was another Olari out there wondering where the abomination she'd just been fighting had gone.

"Hollowhead scum!" she yelled, magnetising the ground beneath Tahnok Nuva. At first it would only pin him in place, sticking his feet to the floor with inexorable power. But as she kept ramping up the juice, it would start doing more than that. It would start pulling every worthless scrap of him downwards, crushing him like a tin can until he was nothing more than a rumpled disk on the ground. Even now it should feel like his head was tenfold heavier than it should be. She'd forgotten about the gem entirely, all that stood before her now was her sworn enemy. Though he wouldn't be standing there for very long

IC: "Oh this old thing?" Jorth gave Zephyr a twirl, sending the thick tentacles of his coat spinning, "Its just something I threw together."

IC: "Ma'am?" Xaeraz asked, his armblade sliding to full extension as he did so, "Is something amiss? I thought I heard something up ahead, but I assumed you would know better than I." He fidgeted, not liking being the only person unaware of what was going on, but his job was to keep the Queen safe. He found himself wishing he had his Ruru still, or maybe his Mask of Sensory aptitude. Self consciously, he touched the shattered mask on his face, mourning what it had once been.

IC: "It looks like the scraps left over from a Takea feeding frenzy," Zephyr said, his disgust now obvious in his voice. He felt no plant life within the coat, neither living nor dead, and that was even worse. "Why would you wear something like that? It's foul and feels just wrong."

"What is this?!" Tahnok felt the pressure on him build intensely, collapsing the bench he sat on further down and bringing him to his knees.

Without another word, Tahnok turned mechanically towards his attacker and, in an instant melted the ground below her into magma.

GM IC: THE QUEEN - TUNNELS

The Queen turned to Xaeraz, nodding.

It would appear that our scouts have encountered something hostile, she said. We shall be entering a field of silence soon, so prepare yourselves.

As she said this, the four of them came across Kopen.

GM IC: VON WORTEN - TUNNELS

As Von Worten probed with her mind, she found... nothing. Or rather, not quite nothing; in the empty space beyond, she would be able to feel that there had once been a mind in this creature. However, it had long ago become brain dead, whatever free will it once had crushed.

IC: "And me without my radar," He quietly joked. Noting Kopen, he quietly jogged up to her and knelt down, placcing a single finger to her throat in an attempt to see if there was any pulse he could feel. He whispered quietly to her, trying to keep her calm and aware that he was not here to attack her, nor that anyone was currently assaulting her. Simultaneously, he allowed his concern to be readily obvious in his mind, so the Queen could "hear" it, but it was tempered with an addition that he was only making sure she wasn't dead, and that he would only give medical aid were she dying or otherwise unable to continue,

IC: Kopen - Queen's Tunnels (with Queen, Xaeraz)

She heard them walking towards her long before she caught their sonic profiles. Her relief at being able to hear again left little room for caring who it was. She knew it was the Queen. She knew she was collapsed on the ground, weak and defenseless, in front of her. But she didn't care, not now.

She was too weak to say anything. She didn't even bother to lift her head as she felt a hand at her neck, and heard a soft, calming whisper. Her choked sobs only became slightly quieter in the face of the Queen.

"I'm... I'm going back," she murmured, barely loud enough for Xaeraz to hear.

Posted

IC: "Going back?" Xaeraz murmured, equally quietly,, folding his armblade up so he wouldn't hurt Kopen on accident. "Back where, to the office? Or to the passage ahead?" he reached down and gently wiped away a couple tears with his blocky fingers, doing his best not to hurt her any with them. "More importantly, are you at all injured?"

IC: Kopen - Queen's Tunnel (with Queen and Xaeraz)

The self-inflicted cuts down her legs were beginning to burn horribly as the blood mingled with the dust of the cave. She winced, and tried to hold back the tears, these ones of pain. "My legs," she choked out. "I... I need to go back. Away from her."

Posted

IC: Ah. Mental trauma. This was not something Xaeraz was overly well versed in, but he'd both experienced and seen much of it. He reached up and unfastened his ragged cape, setting it on the ground, and pinning it in place with one foot. He tore the garment into strips and began wrapping them around Kopen's legs, doing his best to staunch the bleeding.

"I doubt she will allow you to forsake this objective so easily," he said apologetically, "And may very well require you to stay with us, regardless of how capable you are. I'm sorry. I will attempt to breach the subject with her, if you would like."

GM IC: THE QUEEN - TUNNELS

Had you not run ahead, we might have been able to help you sooner, the Queen said. You are lucky I sent Nocton ahead. But that must be water under the bridge for now - what exactly happened? Lytrel and Von Worten both mentioned something about silence and... tentacles? Are there any more details that you can provide for us?

Privately, the Queen sent Xaeraz another message.

Go forward, provide aid to the others if necessary. I shall maintain this link with you if you need to contact me.

She turned back to Kopen.

Albrecht or myself can help your mind to recover more quickly. But you must be willing to let it happen, or the risk of damaging your mind will be too great.

IC: "Understood, Ma'am," he thought as he finished binding Kopen's legs. Xaeraz tucked the remaining strips of cloth into one of the various crevices on his chest and paused to tell Kopen, "I'm sorry, I need to check on the others. I'll be back as soon as I am able to assist in any way I can." With that and a rumble of gearing, Xaeraz stood, extended his blad once more, and jogged into the silent field to see what he could find.

IC: Kopen - Queen's Tunnel (with Queen and Xaeraz)

She gasped with pain as the cloth touched her cuts. Her staff was made for slicing through armor and leaving nasty injuries. She just never thought she would be using it on herself.

She just nodded at Xaeraz's idea, but the Queen spoke back first. "Go... see for yourself," she hissed in a strained voice. "Even if I... did see anything... I wouldn't... tell you. I don't need... anyone... in my head. I'm... fine!" She slumped over until her mask nearly rested on the ground, exhausted from the effort.

GM IC: THE QUEEN - TUNNELS

No, do not bother, the Queen said to AlbrechtThe blind Matoran is stronger than she appears, if not also still foolish.

She opened her thoughts to both Kopen and Ezezko as she continued, replying to Kopen's words.

Perhaps I shall go see for myself, she said. Ezezko, help her up - we shall join the others immediately. And Kopen... if you do not want his help, you will either walk on your own or I will be the one helping you along.

She weakly pulled up her head to meet the Queen's gaze with her own, sightless one. She had worked so hard to show she was as good as anyone else on this ridiculous quest. She couldn't give up now.

She pulled her staff under her and pushed herself to her feet. The golden blades rang with the effort, though their note was dulled by her blood still staining them. Both hands grasped at the haft, desperately pulling to keep her up, but her legs could not support her. She collapsed against the side of the tunnel with a gasp of pain.

"I... can't!" she hissed. "Just... leave me. It's... what you wanted..., isn't it?

She smiled warmly and said "Good! Now, just to be clear what an alliance means to me in this game: We will never attack each other in the arena, we will always team up when possible, and if we happen to be the last two fighters in the arena, we will simply wait until the round ends. Do you understand? If you do, we can shake hands as a sign of agreement. And, uh, sorry that I'm being so formal, I'm just used to that as a templar knight, hehe"

So that's it, then? the Queen asked Kopen, making sure to project a wave of disdain. You'll just sit here and perish, while we continue on our quest? Give up in the blink of an eye? That is exactly what common fools think about you Matoran. That you are weak, and cowardly. Would you prove them correct?

IC: Kopen - Queen's Tunnel (with Queen, Von Armbruster, Ezezko)

She pushed up from the wall to glare at the Queen, but her legs screamed in protest. She sank down against the wall again, but her gaze never faltered.

It hurt, even coming from the last being she should listen to. Every doubt, every insecurity, poured into one concentrated mental dagger. She had spent so much of her life making sure no one could ever say that to her again. And yet, here she was, unable to stand, unable to bear the truth.

She tried to push herself up again. She really did. Every ounce of her will was poured into just forcing her aching legs to cooperate. But the pain was too great. Shredded armor grated on ripped strings of muscles. It was simply not possible for her to stand, not after running here.

"I... don't... give up," she gasped. "Not... for you... or anyone."

But her actions could not back up her words, however bold.
