Why should any player want to side with him?

This was pretty much the first thing that came to mind when I read it, too. There doesn't seem to be much incentive to take his side.

Incentives could always be added. This is merely the inkling of an idea that I brought up to Blade today that hasn't yet been fleshed out.

But I mean, I feel like there's some incentive in automatically winning the game if enough people become loyal to the King, as opposed to risking both death & losing if you refuse. In a 20 person game, allying with the King could theoretically guarantee you victory by Round 5.

True, but there's the constant threat of the King being taken out, leading to instant defeat for his couriers, not to mention the possibility that some players will refuse the offer for purely arbitrary reasons.

The Mafiosi are probably the ones who'd be most enticed by the offer.

Simple solution: if you join the King, you are granted protection from death for that particular night. Slightly increases your chances of survival, with the downside that, if you are targeted for death that round, anyone not allied with the King will suspect that you have accepted the offer (or know you did if the Medic is already dead).

Personal survival isn't the problem, though. If any player, other than the King, is killed, his faction survives. If the King dies, his whole faction is as good as dead. I think you might fix it by making his first recruit his heir. It still seems a bit shaky, but it might work.

EDIT: You've given me an idea for a Mephistophelean role...

A few pages back, I had an idea for a game, I'm gonna repost it in a more tag, with the suggested changes in place.

Said more tag

The island of Kraahva has cut itself off from the nearby mainland, the reason for which, being that a Mafia has begun to form itself, and the effects are devastating. Though this Mafia's ranks are few, they are growing by the minute. The only hope brought the citizens of this island of contrast being the local investigator, the identity of which is unbeknownst to the island. Although there is rumour that a vigilante has taken justice of this island into their own hands.

Rules:

Mafia: Each night, the Mafia may either recruit, or kill. This choice is left to the head of the Mafia, and once this choice has been made, a vote is held between the Mafia. Excluding the Head, none within the Mafia know which inhabitants of the Kraahva are Mafia, aside from themself, nor do they know what the others have voted, majority wins, Head's vote counts for double. The Mafia begins with three members, and recruitment takes two nights, rather than one. Recruitment may be revealed to fail on the second night of recruiting based on coin toss.

Investigator: The Investigator may choose once per night who to investigate, and will be told whether or not who they've chosen is within the Mafia.

Vigilante: The Vigilante may once per night choose who to chase down, if who they have chosen is within the Mafia, the Vigilante may either save whoever is being killed by the Mafia, or kill the Mafia they've found, however, if whoever they've been chasing isn't, they die.

Voting: Once per day, the inhabitants vote on who to hang, voting for the hanging takes place in the topic, whilst voting for the Mafia takes place through Private Messaging. If the Vigilante is lynched, they'll be listed as being an normal inhabitant.

Heirs: When the Mafia's Head, the Investigator, or the Vigilante is killed, their heir then takes their job, they may tell me through private message who they wish to be their heir at any point in the game before they are killed. If they are killed before they choose an heir, then they don't get an heir. NOTE: THE HEAD'S HEIR MUST BE CHOSEN FROM WITHIN THE MAFIA. Choosing an heir takes one night for the mafia, and the vigilante, and in the night in which the entirety of the mafia cannot do anything else, same said for the vigilante.

Victory: If the entirety of the Mafia is killed, then the Inhabitants win. If there are only three players remaining, and there is still Mafia, the Mafia wins.

I've started to slowly re-format the first post; it isn't anywhere near finished yet.

Also not certain BZP will let me have this much code in a single post, but I'm going to give it a shot anyway :P

MY EYES

my goal is to increase the amount of information available in the first post

in order to do this, I have willingly sacrificed the ability of every single person to read said information

trust me, it is a genius plan

How long can it go on for anyway? I'm just going to continue typing for just about as long as I can manage whilst remaining sane until I want to stop, and then I will see if the tag includes all of it or merely some of it. Do periods mess with the coding, or just square brackets? What if I was to add another equal sign? What if there is no limit to the more tag? Will I be forced to continue writing endlessly, coming up with new things to say for all of eternity? Or will it all end? Could I make the more tag writing not be bold? Could I italicize it? Could I use strikethrough on it? Should I try? Would the brackets necessary for the additional coding of these special text features mess with the more tag code, thereby ending the more tag? Could I cause the entire thing to glitch out, leaving us with an otherwise unreadable post? Can the color of the more tag's text be changed? Could I make it a stunningly bright green, rendering it even more unreadable? Am I going to stop asking questions soon? I don't know. Maybe I should share some updated progress on that Bionicle Mafia Conquest idea, except that I don't really know that it would be a very fun game anyway. Just your basic 20 players with 4 or 5 Mafia, a Detective, a Medic, and then a King who in all likelihood will be assassinated Night 1, knowing how things tend to go in these games. So perhaps it is best left in the trash bin. Okay, I'm tired of writing now. I kinda hope all of this stays in because if it doesn't, I might appear exceedingly foolish. Then again, if it does all appear, I will now look like an idiot for doubting myself in the first place. It is what it is, I suppose.
Bionicle Mafia Fates: Conquest is a stupid title, for what it's worth. Ugh.

E: cool

a test to remove the bold
Does it work, or is it like that Bionicle Mafia Fates: Conquest title?

E: the test failed

a test to italicize it
Knowing how the other one went, I'm going to assume this will also fail.

E: this test also failed

I am now going to stop testing. This is utterly pointless.

As am I. I actually had an interesting setup...

The Ghidfather

Set in a smog-infested suburbia. One of the secret roles would be someone probably representing Jack the ripper, stealing people at night and murdering them whilst the mafia does their usual mafia-stuff. I had some more, but I don't want to reveal them (and there's more to the Ripper role as well).

When I try to preview this topic, currently, I get "Fatal error: Maximum execution time of 30 seconds exceeded in /home/bzpower/public_html/board/converge_public/sources/classes/text/parser/bbcode.php on line 882"

Voltex?

No idea. I have no knowledge when it comes to code.

I'm getting the same thing on line 844.

So

So far it only affects the preview, so it's not too major? But you should probably open a tracker ticket for it.

Role idea:

The martial artist:

When attacked by normal mafia, they repel the attack, and learn the identity of the attacker. the scene states that someone was attacked, but successfully repelled the attack, implying that the martial artist was attacked. This should notify the mafia that their attack fails.

When attacked by the leader of the mafia, it is as if a normal person is attacked by the mafia, they can be protected by a protective role, but otherwise they die.

I'll toss up what I have so far for the role setup of this possible Conquest game:

Matoran x12 – Ordinary players; vote on who to execute each day.

Detective x1 – Investigates a player each night to determine their role.

Medic x1 – Protects a player each night from the Dark Hunters.

Shadowed One x1 – Decides who to send and who to kill each night.

Dark Hunters x4 – Killers in the shadows.

King x1 – Targets two players each night; targets can decide to either become loyal to the King or stand against them. If a player becomes loyal to the King, they are protected from death for that night and the following day.

If more than half of players in the game become loyal to the King, the King and their subjects win immediately.

Nothing too fancy; with the King role anything less or more than 20 players would start becoming very hard to balance, as would including any other killing roles. But who knows? I don't actually plan on hosting this game, so yeah :P

OKAY

OKAY

I have finished updating the first post.

The changes include:

-Condensing everything into a few "more" tags

-Expanding the information on each game to include the number of players & the start/end dates

-Including information (such as noting when a game is part of a sub-series, or if it suffered from a data loss)

-Including links to the wiki pages of games that have them

-Linking to the BZP Mafia Wiki itself

-The Second Age is now included! All five main series games + the two side games

---

So yeah, hopefully these changes are worth it? I'm looking at other info that might be good to include ATM so if you have any ideas on that front, let me know.

that really drove home how long my games have been because of issues

which is why 34 has undergone enough revisions that, at my current estimate, it should only take two weeks total

All are not the same

But three shall be as one

The end has just begun

another game idea because it's not like it'll be forever and a day before I host By the Numbers 3:

mafiaiii5.png

The village has fallen into the sinister hands of the Cult – the Cult of Hapori Dume.

Eight beings remain free of its influence.

One, long ago driven insane, dedicates their existence to pyromania.

One, driven to desperation, hunts the leader of the Cult.

One, ruled over by logic, pledges to stop roles in their tracks.

One, before an evil experimenter, now finds them self a saviour.

Four, once brutal killers, are now the final hope, and the final stand.

---

The Cult has risen.

The Village are the villains.

And so the Mafia, too, find their typical role reversed.

They have become the heroes of this tale.

Will it be one of success? One of freedom? One of survival?

Or one of failure? One of enslavement? One of death?

Let’s find out.

RULES

1-Vote changes are not permitted.

2-All BZP Rules Apply.

3-Once killed, players can no longer have an impact on the game.

4-Role revealing is not allowed.

ROLES

THE CULT

Cultists x14 – These brainwashed players vote each day on who they believe is an enemy of the Cult.

Medic x1 – The Medic was one of the last to fall, although they do not see it as such. Each night, they can protect one person from death; but if they protect the Plague Doctor, both of them will perish. The Medic cannot save the Cult Leader from the Spy.

Detective x1 – The last member of the Village to fall under the influence of the Cult. He investigates one target each night to determine their role.

Cult Leader x1 – Each night, targets one other player – if the target is not already a member of the Cult, they will automatically become an ordinary Cultist. This sinister being is the one responsible for the brainwashing of the Village. At night, the Cult Leader is safe from everyone except the Spy unless the Medic, Detective, Pyro, and Cryo are all dead.

THE MAFIA

Mafia x4 – These four individuals are scattered throughout the Village, hiding in plain sight. In order to slow down the Cult, they have hidden their identities from each other. Each night, they can target one other player for death; however, there is a small chance that their kill attempt might fail.

Plague Doctor x1 – Another free individual; unfortunately, the Plague Doctor no longer knows who their allies are. They can protect one player each night from the influence of the Cult Leader, although if they protect the Medic, both of them will perish.

Spy x1 – The Spy’s only goal (indeed, their only purpose) is to kill the Cult Leader. Each night, they investigate one player to find their role; if they find the Cult Leader, the Cult Leader is immediately slain.

THE OTHER GUYS

Pyro x1 – This cherry-flavored, highly flammable person is truly insane. They target two players each night to kill, and decide which one will die with the flip of a coin.

Cryo x1 – This not-cherry-flavored, very very cold person is the opposite of insane. They target two players each night to freeze, and use logic to determine which of the two will be allowed to continue their night as normal.

Oh, I want in on that game, that sounds awesome.

I had an idea for a future game too, but I've been gone for awhile and don't know about all the other previous games. Does anyone know if there's been a Mafia-Style game in which the Mafia were essentially Visorahk and Hordika, and able to recruit player if done right? If not, I'd like to polish the idea and run that game eventually...

"Quis custodiet ipsos custodies? Your grace."

"I know that one. 'Who watches the Watchmen?' Me, Mr. Pessimal."

"Ah, but who watches you, your grace?"

"I do that too. All the time."

Wait, isn't that my idea?

If it is, I apologize.

Nope.

Never been done.

Not ever.

:P

E: Although I don't think they've ever specifically been called Visorak/Hordika.

as for Mafia III-5... I don't know. I was kinda hoping to host Bionicle X Ninjago 3 next time I host but if you all want Mafia III-5, then I'd be totally cool with delaying another trilogy third-parter until the end of time =P

Yep.

I wouldn't mind so much, were it not for the fact that it's scheduled for XXVIII, and that, given that my brain has stopped hurting, I should actually be able to host it.

That's the excuse I needed to not host this for a long time and host Bionicle X Ninjago III instead :P

It's been over 2 years since the last Mafia III game, people can wait longer

Out of the eerie fog came a heavily dressed figure.

It was seven at night, the sun still shone over the worn rooftops and crashed down hard against the sidewalk, piercing through the thick layer of stratos clouds and gleam against the face of Salvero Mastaccioli. It took him two more steps to reach his destination: An old brick-face house in an even older suburb.

As he walked in, the smooth velvet doormat awaited the tops of his heels in seeming admiration as he trotted towards a room with a crystal doorknob. Three knocks, the handle turned...

Inside were two all familiar figures; one standing, a grimacing tone to his face, and the other was slightly reclined in a gothic chair with metal finish. "Whell?"

"I took care of our admiring customer," Salvero grinned. "And the coup is down the drain."

"No," The figure glared sharply at Salvero. "Actually, my dear man Pridak Omega-san has convinthed me tat you ah in theh coop as wehl. Escort."

The slender form of Omega Pridak suddenly slid forwards, gripping Salvero's neck and thrusting him backwards, gripping until the gagging con man had passed on. "Looks likhe whe'll do some dirty work ourshelves."

BIONICLE MAFIA XXIX

hni_0036.jpg

Rules:

1. Basic Mafia rules. If you're new to Mafia, or you just need a refresher, just ask.

2. Vote switches are handed out very gingerly, so if you genuinely made a mistake, I'll allow a switch.

3. Night rounds last about 24 hours, and day rounds about 24. However, votes a little late will still be counted.

4. This has barely anything to do with the Bionicle Storyline, so no need to have a perfect history of it.

5. And don't reveal your role until after you've been eliminated. Revealing your role prematurely is asking me to boot you from the game.

Village-aligned Roles: Roles assisting the safety of the village. Win by eliminating all Mafia.

Villagers: You can vote each day for who you want to be killed off in an attempt to find the Mafia.

Medic: A healer with rather vast powers. Each night, the Medic can protect one player from being killed. However, the Medic cannot protect himself.

Detective: May investigate a player each night, and find out their role. However, He cannot reveal them to anyone else but himself.

Secret Role #1: This is a secret role not yet revealed. Once the player uses His ability, the role will be revealed.

Mafia: Those running the murders. Win by eliminating all neutral/village roles.

Pridak Omega-san: Cannot communicate with the other Mafiosi, although they all know who each other is. Instead, He immobilizes a player each round, preventing them from taking any action, even from saying they're immobilized.

Mafiosi: These are the Mafia. They select a player each night to eliminate.

Secret Role #2: This is a secret role not revealed yet. Once the player uses His ability, the role will be revealed.

Neutral Roles: Those who are not Village-aligned, yet not Mafia. Win by eliminating all Mafia.

Candy Man: If targeted, he will reward his attacker with a lollipop, and reveal the identity of them to the world. He can only escape death once, however.

Worm: The worm is tied to a random Villager at the start of the game. If that role is targeted, the worm dies first.
